Happy Holler Soap Box Derby

Build It. Race It. Send it down the Holler.

The Holleroo Soap Box Derby is your chance to turn a pile of wheels, wood, creativity, and questionable engineering into something worth cheering for. Teams build their own gravity-powered soap box cars, line up on Central at Scott, and let the hill do the rest. No engines. No motors. Just gravity, guts, and a whole lot of Happy Holler energy.

And speed isn’t everything. Bring your best design game, because every car is also automatically entered into the derby’s beauty contest. Whether you’re building to take the fastest time, win over the crowd, or simply create the most unforgettable thing rolling down Central, the goal is to have a good time and put on a show.

A Few Things Before You Hit the Hill

Cars must be gravity-powered, have four wheels, steer, and—most importantly—stop. Helmets are required, all cars will be inspected for safety before racing, and there can be no motors, propulsion systems, skateboard or caster wheels, or other tricks helping you down the hill. Adult Division racers must be 18+, while the Junior Division is for ages 13–17. Teams may have up to five members, with a maximum of two people riding in the car.

And remember: every team must provide at least one race-day volunteer. Your volunteer will help the Holleroo crew manage the race, and teams and their volunteers will also lend a hand with course setup and breakdown. Everyone involved—including racers, pushers, and volunteers—must sign a waiver.
